The Difference Between Latisse and Lash Extensions

I get asked all the time about the difference between lash extensions and growth serums such as Latisse.  So in this blog, I'd like to address the differences in hopes it helps you to make an informed decision on which option will be the best for you.

Growth serums are typically applied daily directly to the eyelid and can be used in addition to eye makeup and mascara.  With regular use you'll see improvement in lash growth within 2 months, with full results occurring at 12-16 weeks.

If the application is stopped, eyelashes will return to their previous appearance within several weeks or months. A one month supply is $120.  Possible side effects are darkening of the skin of the upper eyelid which is reversible if the treatment is discontinued.  Although rare, brown pigmentation leaking into the iris or colored portion of the eye could be a drawback for someone with light colored eyes.  Since growth serums stimulate your natural lashes, they will likely grown in various lengths resulting in a non-uniform look.  Here's a before and after from Latisse use:

Lash extensions are applied to one natural lash at a time.  When your natural lashes shed, so will the lash extension.  With regular retouches, they usually last 3-4 weeks.  Eyelash extensions are a great option for someone who's looking for a low maintenance option that's easy to upkeep.

You can continue to use eye makeup such as eye shadow and liners while wearing lash extensions however removal requires an oil free remover in order to maintain the bond of the lash extension to your natural eyelash.  The biggest challenge is doing your research to find a lash artist who applies lashes one at a time.  Unfortunately, not all lash artists practice proper isolation to ensure your lashes aren't glued together.  As with any industry, there are the good and not so good so it's important to do your research.

Here's an example of how eyelash extensions look:

Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

It's officially flu season friends!  Over the weekend, I started to feel the symptoms of a cold coming on and immediately pulled out my secret weapon.  Apple cider vinegar mixed with honey to taste will fight germs inside of your body and it's a good to boost your immune system.  I take one or two spoonfuls of this mix every 2-3 hours and usually feel better within the same day.  I hope none of you get sick during this season but if you do, make sure you have this in your cabinet.  It's a natural, healthy way to fight off illness and has a ton of other benefits.

Oil Free Cleansers

I'm constantly promoting eye health which is super important when you make the decision to wear lash extensions. The two that I suggest the most are OcuSoft Lid Scrub and SteriLid.  Both essentially work in the same way however I like OcuSoft most because they come in handy wipes.  You can get either from your local drug store, making it super convenient to care for your lashes.
