Back to my Roots

When I started in this industry, I offered hair braiding only.  Although it's not something I offer now, my sister always manages to convince me to put her hair in braids which she did last weekend and it took a long time.  So here she is, 14 years old with Senegalese twists.  And blue on top of that!  The kids these days play with a lot of color so while this isn't my style, she loves them!  Enjoy!

5 Reasons To Get Rid of Your Mascara

I can honestly think of a lot more than five reasons but for the sake of keeping this short and sweet, I'm listing the biggest in this entry.

1.  Most people don't clean it thoroughly off the lashes which leads to build up and infection.

2.  If you cry, sweat, swim or sit in a steam room, you can almost guarantee it will be running down your face giving you raccoon eyes.

3.  It clumps!  Eek!  Mascara makes your natural lashes stick together so it's difficult to achieve a soft and fluffy look.

4.  It's time consuming putting it on.  The layering process in order to get a full look takes at least 15 minutes a day.

5.  Taking it off is a nightmare which takes you right back to number 1.

Solution:  Get lash extensions.  :-)

How to clean your eyelash extensions

In order to maintain your new lash extensions, it's important to make sure you keep them clean.  Not cleaning your lashes can lead to build up of debris and infection.  To avoid both, here are the instructions I recommend to my clients to clean your lashes.  This can be done while washing your face to cut down on time:

1.  Splash your eyes with water

2.  Apply an oil free cleaner to your lashes using your fingertips

3.  Massage the cleanser into the base of your lashes

4.  Splash your eyes with water again making sure you've rinsed out the cleanser

5.  Pat eyelids dry and allow lashes to air dry

6.  Use your clean mascara wand to brush lashes into place

How long do lash extensions last?

I get this question all the time and to be honest, there isn't a solid answer as it depends on the person.  We naturally shed between one and five eyelashes per day.  This is no different than when you have lash extensions attached but when you have lash extensions, you tend to notice it more.  In general, I recommend retouching your lash extensions every 2-3 weeks.

Below is a picture of one of my clients at 3 weeks.  As you can see, you'll still have long lashes remaining but they just aren't as full as a new set.

Authentically Individual

So many places claim they offer "individuals when really what they offer are clusters or flares.  In case you're wondering, true individuals require the isolation of one natural eyelash and placing one false eyelash extension onto the natural lash. The exception is Russian Volume lashes where you can place up to 8 lash extensions on one natural lash.  The above picture is how the process looks from my angle while applying lash extensions.  Do your research prior to choosing a lash artist!
